New Toys
Yep, we’ve bought some new kit. Given the amount & type of work coming out of the earthquake we’ve purchased a digital level. It’s a Trimble DiNi (which means that it plays nicely with our Trimble software). The digital bit means it reads a bar-code on the staff thus speeding things up and eliminating possible reading & booking errors. It works like a charm.
The first outing was to check a warehouse floor, which involved over 3000 points. (hats off to Dave P and Rebecca for doing the hard yards there).
And just last week our team were observing levels on the 5th floor of a building on Victoria St. The level reported that the staff was moving too much and it couldn’t get a reading. Manual readings indicated that there was about 2cm of movement occuring as the building reverberated from the demolition of the Strategy building!
(And we should add to the list that we purchased a Trimble R8 GNSS receiver last year. We’ve kitted it out to work with the iBase system, which means that as long as we have cellphone coverage then we’ve got pretty accurate positions.)
So, next time you want to know if things are on the level, or just where on earth you are – give us a call!
