Taiora QEII Recreation and Sport Centre
A large scale and complex project that helped to bring the QEII Centre back to East Christchurch.
The Challenge
Helping to bring Taiora QEII Centre back to East Christchurch was a project Fox & Associates took on board with open arms.
The new facility is built on the site of the original QEII stadium and pools and includes a 25m competition pool, learn to swim, leisure, hydrotherapy, toddler and spa pools, a 130m long hydroslide and gym, meeting rooms and café.
Our Expertise
Services provided included UAV aerial, topographical and legalisation surveys, output of digital terrain models, urban, engineering and infrastructure design, planning and consulting.
The Solution
The project began with a UAV topographic survey of the entire 36 ha park. This was followed by a detailed survey of an 8 ha area of the park being acquired for the new Avonside Girls and Shirley Boys High Schools and a legalisation survey.
We set-out the pools, hydroslide, drainage and the carpark kerb and channel and gridlines and blockwork. We also certified the competition pool to international swimming standards and provided as-built drawings to assist with building consent compliance.
The Result
By the time the project was complete, six staff had made more than 60 site visits and had produced around 80 set-out diagrams, plans and drawings. It was hugely satisfying to bring back a much loved part of East Christchurch.
